On the inanity of documentary television

I don’t watch a lot of TV at the moment, aside from series stolen and nailed to my computer. What I do watch is usually supposed to be educational. Documentary-channel fare, in other words. What I get, however, is an endless of shows about ‘the brave men whose jobs are stupid/dangerous’ and ‘people doing stupid/dangerous things for no reason’. I finally lost it when I saw an ad about people climbing Everest and emphasising, of all things, how dangerous it was to do so. No shit, we would never have guessed that climbing the highest and most unforgiving mountain in the world could be DANGEROUS. What’s next?

“The new show on Docu-tv: Solar explorers. They landed on the sun, and got BURNT!”
